Brunei Energy Hub (Hab Tenaga Brunei Dermaga Diraja)
Concept Art Direction UI/UX Illustration 2D Animation
The newly launched Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja is a tribute to the nation’s history and an interactive educational center. It highlights the energy industry’s importance to the local economy and daily life. Described as “a gift to the nation,” it allows visitors to explore Brunei’s life before the 1929 oil discovery, understand the current energy industry, and learn about future strategies for sustainable and affordable energy.

Building a Sustainable City
Summary: Step into the role of city planners in this interactive game for up to 3 players. The objective is to develop a carbon-neutral city by balancing various factors and increasing sustainability and happiness levels through the implementation of eco-friendly infrastructure. Players places RFID totems onto the reader to construct facilities such as Power Generators, Green Initiatives, and Transportation hubs. The game includes a projection displaying a globe, divided into three main cities, each representing the progress of the player’s city.
Methodology: Touchscreen with RFID totems; Wall Projection; Up to 3 users
My Role: Concept, Game Logic, Art Direction, UX/UI Design, Animations & Transitions
Art Direction: Game graphics UI are designed to appeal to younger crowds, with transitions to help players understand the game flow and make the content easier to understand.
Challenges Faced: Many players initially struggled with understanding how to use the RFID totems effectively.
Solution: Implemented a guided tutorial at the beginning of the game to introduce players to the RFID system and guide them through building their first infrastructure.
What I Learnt: Effective tutorial design is crucial for ensuring smooth user onboarding and engagement in interactive games.
Future Energy Lab (Augmented Reality)
Summary: Brunei is at the forefront of emerging technologies that could transform the future of the oil and gas industry. In this Augmented Reality experience, visitors select a technology to learn about its potential impact. They can then interact with on-screen objects to see these technologies come to life, offering an immersive glimpse into the future of energy.
Methodology: Augmented Reality using iPad; Single user
My Role: Concept, Art Direction, UX Design, UI Design, Motion Graphics
Art Direction: The UI design is intentionally futuristic to reflect the cutting-edge technologies featured in the AR experience.
Challenges Faced: The large file sizes of the motion graphic animations caused frequent crashes due to program limitations.
Solution: Collaborated closely with the developer to determine the optimal file size and format, ensuring high-quality graphics without compromising performance.
What I Learnt: Balancing graphic quality with technical constraints is essential in AR projects, emphasizing the importance of optimizing assets for both performance and visual impact.
Wheel of Energy
Summary: This tactile interactive allows visitors to turn a wheel left or right to explore oil and gas through animated illustrations. Turning left reveals everyday objects made from propane gas, while turning right shows the various uses of a barrel of oil.
Methodology: Interactive projection; Single user
My Role: Concept, Art Direction, UX Design, Motion Graphics
Art Direction: The illustrations were intentionally designed in a vector style with vibrant colors to ensure the projected animations stand out in the dimmed area.
